EQUILABS Partners with the Rhesus Solution Initiative

[/fusion_title][fusion_text]

Statistics show that Nigeria is one of the largest contributors to infant mortality figures in the world today. Several interventions have been implemented to address several contributors to the spiking infant mortality figures. One factor however, has been wrapped in cultural and traditional beliefs but is being demystified by the Rhesus Solution Initiative (RSI). For over a decade now RSI has focused on sensitizing the public especially teenagers and pregnant women on the importance of knowing their blood group and rhesus status.

“As part of its vision and goal, EHAI is committed to not only implementing, but supporting innovations that contribute to equal access to quality health care services as well and improved health outcomes.”

[/fusion_text][fusion_text]The Rhesus factor is a protein that can be present on the surface of the human red blood cells. Those that have this protein are said to be Rhesus positive and those that do not have it are said to be Rhesus negative. The Rhesus factor is inherited through parents’ genes just like the blood group. When the fetus of a Rhesus negative pregnant woman is Rhesus positive there are usually problems with the pregnancy. This is because the Rhesus negative mother’s body produces antibodies attack the Rhesus positive fetus as an invader. This is called Rhesus incompatibility. Some of the implications of Rhesus incompatibility include: miscarriages, fetal hemolytic disease which results in jaundice, mental retardation and even neonatal death.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_2″ layout=”1_2″ spacing=”” center_content=”no” hover_type=”none” link=”” min_height=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_position=”left top” background_repeat=”no-repeat” border_size=”0″ border_color=”” border_style=”solid” border_position=”all” padding=”” dimension_margin=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=”” last=”no”][fusion_button link=”https://www.ehainigeria.org/RSI%20Story.pdf” title=”” target=”_blank” link_attributes=”” alignment=”center” modal=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” color=”custom” button_gradient_top_color=”#f41000″ button_gradient_bottom_color=”#f41000″ button_gradient_top_color_hover=”#f41000″ button_gradient_bottom_color_hover=”#f41000″ accent_color=”” accent_hover_color=”” type=”3d” bevel_color=”#f41000″ border_width=”” size=”” stretch=”default” shape=”pill” icon=”fa-download” icon_position=”left” icon_divider=”no” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””]DOWNLOAD PDF[/fusion_button][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_2″ layout=”1_2″ spacing=”” center_content=”no” hover_type=”none” link=”” min_height=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_position=”left top” background_repeat=”no-repeat” border_size=”0″ border_color=”” border_style=”solid” border_position=”all” padding=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=”” last=”no”][fusion_button link=”https://www.ehainigeria.org/RSI%20Story.pdf” title=”” target=”_self” link_attributes=”” alignment=”center” modal=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” color=”custom” button_gradient_top_color=”#f41000″ button_gradient_bottom_color=”#f41000″ button_gradient_top_color_hover=”#f41000″ button_gradient_bottom_color_hover=”#f41000″ accent_color=”” accent_hover_color=”” type=”3d” bevel_color=”#f41000″ border_width=”” size=”” stretch=”default” shape=”pill” icon=”fa-list” icon_position=”left” icon_divider=”no” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””]READ MORE[/fusion_button][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
