Equitable Health Access Initiative has collaborated with 3WC Communications to enable the adoption of mobile money technology for Ondo Catholic Mutual Health Association. EHAI and 3WC Communications held a stakeholder consultative meeting with key stakeholders of Ondo Catholic community on May 21, 2018 to effectively communicate the benefits of the technology.
This meeting was held as part of efforts to sustain Community Based Social Health Insurance Programme for the catholic community by ensuring members can access efficient and cost-effective health care with the use of technology. This is in line with EHAI’s mission to achieve equitable, sustainable, efficient and cost-effective health care in Nigeria using available and appropriate technologies.
The unique benefits of mobile money technology for Mutual Health Associations are that; premium and capitation payment will be made in real time as enrollees and the Board of Trustees can pay for health from the comfort of their devices. Transparency and accountability are core to financial management systems and mobile money technology offers this advantage. These benefits are evident in mobile money enabled CBSHIP schemes such as L’Union Technique de la Mutualite Malienne (Mali) and Micro Ensure (Tanzania).
Ultimately, mobile money technology will ensure easy enrollment, consistent premium payment and active participation of existing and prospective members of Ondo Catholic Mutual Health Association.
