Equitable Health Access International (EHAI) was set up in 2018 as an affiliate organization to Equitable Health Access Initiative (EHAI), which was set up in 2012. Both organisations operate under the same governance structure, management and staff. Equitable Health Access International (EHAI) was set up to address the Initiative’s challenge with the System for Award Management (SAM) registration. Thus, EHAInternational/EHAInitiative is an indigenous not-for-profit NGO fully committed to positively impacting the human race through research, training and implementation of innovative public health projects in the control of Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases of public health importance and Health Systems Strengthening in Nigeria. We are also focused on supporting the Government of Nigeria at the Federal and State level in achieving Universal Health Coverage by ensuring that Nigerians, especially those living in rural and underserved areas, have access to affordable, equitable and quality health care services. With a staff strength of 72 highly skilled and dedicated staff, we have our corporate head office located in Lagos State and State offices at Abuja FCT, Nasarawa, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Imo, Anambra, Abia and Enugu States.
The key / principal officers of the organization have many years of experience individually and as a team in planning and implementing large scale PEPFAR, Global Funds and USAID grants for the control of Infectious Diseases and Health System Strengthening in Nigeria. We are also very adept at carrying out operational/implementation research projects in Nigeria. As a foundation member of Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA), we are at the forefront when it comes to implementation research in Nigeria. We have successfully conducted several operational research projects across Nigeria and our highly experienced staff have several publications in international peer reviewed journals and have had several abstracts and posters accepted at various local and international scientific conferences.
Between 2012 and 2017, as a sub-awardee to the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN) on the US PEPFAR funded Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Nigeria 5-year grant award, we provided HIV Testing Services (HTS) to over 163,000 pregnant women and 358,000 general population with over 13,000 adult and children placed on ART in Southwest Nigeria. From 2017 to date, we have been implementing a similar PEPFAR funded project, ACHIEVE, in Abuja and Nasarawa State providing HTS Services to over 100,000 adults and children and maintaining over 10,000 HIV positive adults and children on life saving ARVs. We are also currently functioning as Sub-recipient to the Society for Family Health (SFH) to implement the Global Fund HIV Intervention for Key Population tilted “HIV Investment for Impact” Grant (NGA-H-SFHNG) from July 2019 – April 2021. The project involves working with KP led CBOs to provide HIV prevention and linkage intervention across all Key Population Groups (MSM, FSW, PWIDs and TGs) in the following States: Oyo, Edo, Anambra, Imo, Abia and Enugu States.
