The Equitable Health Access Initiative’s CBSHIP team has held various consultative meetings and sensitization talks with stakeholders and members of the Catholic community in Ondo. These meetings were held in March 2018 in line with EHAI’s goals to scale up Community Based Social Health Insurance Program in Ondo State contributing to the achievement of Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria. A major outcome of the meetings is the adoption of CBSHIP by Catholic stakeholders who stated that the reason for adopting the programme is because it promotes Catholic healthcare principles which is the dignity for human life and obligation to common good.
Sequel to the adoption of the scheme, the Deans, Parish Priests and members of the Executive Councils of the Catholic deaneries have commenced efforts to set up a management and financial structure for the scheme. There will be continuous sensitization and awareness within Catholic churches, schools and hospitals to effectively communicate CBSHIP’s unique benefits and ensure active participation and enrollment on the program.
