The Play for Life Football Novelty Match is part of a year long series of activities targeted towards increased advocacy for the fight against HIV/AIDS, the need to stop the stigmatization and discrimination of persons living with the disease and getting to the point of zero AIDS related deaths and zero new HIV infections. The highlight of the 2013 Project was a week-long (Monday 25th November to 30th November 2013) VCT (Voluntary Counselling and Testing) which commenced 5 days before the Novelty Football Match which took place on 30th November 2013. The week-long voluntary and counselling session provided an opportunity for over 3000 people to access free HIV counselling and testing within Lagos. EHAI played a prominent role in the support of all VCT activities in the provision of RTKs (rapid test kits), HCT booths as well as laboratory personnel (testers) and counsellors.The 2013 Play for Life Campaign which brought together the best of Nigeria’s celebrities in the football and entertainment industries reached over 5,000 targeted persons with VCT, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention information and education across Lagos state and over 1 million across the various electronic print and online media platforms.
