Progress Report on the ACTION Plus Up Project in Ondo and Ekiti States: In line with the 90:90:90

[/fusion_title][fusion_text]As part of its vision as an organisation, EHAI is resolved to contribute significantly to global goals and targets related to HIV prevention, care and treatment. EHAI is a sub-awardee to the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN) on the PEPFAR funded Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 5 year (2012 – 2017) grant award implementing the AIDS Care and Treatment in Nigeria Plus Up (ACTION Plus Up) project in Ondo and Ekiti States, Southwest Nigeria. The project entails supporting the State Ministries of Health, the State Agencies for the Control of AIDS (SACA) as well as the State Primary Health Care Development Agency with the provision of sustainable high quality and free HIV prevention, care and treatment as well as health system strengthening services in every local government area covering primary, secondaryand tertiary health facilities. In 2016, EHAI supported thirty-nine (39) health facilities (28 in Ondo state and 11 in Ekiti state). All 39 health facilities provide comprehensive PMTCT services, while 31 of them provide Adult and Paediatric comprehensive ART services.[/fusion_text][fusion_title margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” size=”1″ content_align=”center” style_type=”none” sep_color=””]

Targeting total elimination in the Prevention of Mother – To – Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV

[/fusion_title][fusion_text]

Borrowing a leaf from the success story in Cuba, where it is being reported that 100% elimination of mother-to-child transmission has been achieved, multiple reasons have been cited to explain this relative success;

Just as in Cuba, the above remains the well-established protocol to achieving total elimination of Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV (eMTCT). With an ever growing number of HIV-positive pregnant women in Nigeria, estimated at over 320,000 who are at risk of infecting their unborn babies in the absence of adequate care, providing support for national public health programming is very imperative. EHAI has been therefore been able to ensure PMTCT services are available at all the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of both Ondo and Ekiti States with support from her funders and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders in the states. The below table shows the number reached with this intervention between October 2012 and September 2016.
