At our organization, we remain deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of public health professionals. This commitment goes beyond classroom theory—it involves creating meaningful opportunities for students to gain real-world experience, build confidence, and strengthen their leadership capacity in the rapidly evolving field of public health.
From June 2025 to October 2025, we had the privilege of hosting students from over nine universities across Nigeria and beyond. These institutions include Babcock University, Bowen University, Achievers University, Clifford University, Redeemer’s University, Maryam Abacha American University, Kwara State University, and Osun State University. Together, they formed our Cohorts 1–6, representing a diverse and vibrant group of emerging public health innovators.
A Five-Month Journey of Growth and Innovation
The internship was an intensive five-month learning experience, thoughtfully designed to expose students to the intersection of public health and modern technology. Throughout their time with us, the interns participated in hands-on projects, professional development sessions, mentorship meetings, and collaborative activities that reinforced both academic knowledge and practical application.
What Our Interns Learned
Throughout the program, the interns gained valuable, real-world experience that helped shape their understanding of public health practice in today’s digital era. They explored how artificial intelligence can be applied to public health challenges, discovering how emerging technologies support disease surveillance, strengthen health systems, and promote equity across communities. Their involvement in digital health initiatives deepened their appreciation for innovative tools that improve communication, accessibility, and overall health outcomes.
In addition to this, the interns engaged in public health field experience, where they observed and participated in community-level health activities. This exposure helped them better understand the realities, challenges, and opportunities within public health systems. They also took part in data collection for a research project, learning how to gather, organize, and interpret data responsibly—an essential skill for evidence-based public health practice.
Furthermore, the interns enhanced their leadership and professional skills through teamwork, guided mentorship, and problem-solving exercises that encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and ethical decision-making. A major highlight of their journey was the development of strong competencies in data analytics, visualization, and visual advocacy. These skills allowed them to interpret complex health information and communicate it clearly, persuasively, and with a strong emphasis on evidence-based impact. By the end of the program, each student had grown into a more confident, technically skilled, and forward-thinking public health professional.
