The Action to Control HIV Epidemic through Evidence (ACHIEVE)

This is a CDC Nigeria funded project of The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) under the PEPFAR 3 program. EHAI functions as a sub-recipient of IHVN implementing the ACHIEVE project in 3 Local Government Areas (LGA) of Nasarawa State and Kwali LGA of the FCT (2017 – 2022). Under the ACHIEVE project, EHAI provided technical and programmatic support to pre-identified health facilities within these LGAs to ensure they provided HIV services of the highest quality to their clients. The project offered HIV prevention, care and treatment services to Adults and Paediatrics clients, Pregnant Women (PMTCT), Key Population and Vulnerable Children, Sustained patients on ART and support a minimal increase through passive enrolment on ART.

Through these projects EHAI achieved the following:

  • Over 900,000 Adults and Children provided with HIV Testing Services (HTS)
  • Over 239,000 Pregnant women provided with Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV Services
  • Over 31,000 Adults and Children placed on life saving Antiretroviral Therapy (ART)
  • Clinical screening for Tuberculosis provided for over 25,000 Adults and Children

EHAI’s implementation of APU and ACHIEVE projects reiterate the organization’s commitments towards achieving:

  • Target 3.1 of SDG 3 which is to reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births.
  • Target 3.2 of SDG3 which is to end preventable deaths of new-borns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births and under-5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1,000 live births by 2030.
  • Target 3.3 of SDG 3 which is to end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases by 2030.
