This position reports to: Project Coordinator – LUWASH
Job Type: Contract (12 Months)
Number of Positions to be filled: 7
Locations: Apapa, Mushin, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Ajeromi, and Etiosa.
This Position is open to all qualified candidates but preference will be given to applicants who reside in the Local Government Areas listed above.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Programs Officer will provide oversight at the LGA level across all thematic areas on the COM-WASH Project. The position serves as the EHAI Program representative, overseeing and coordinating all activities to achieve the set targets . You will work closely with the Project Coordinator to plan and implement community-based hygiene promotion activities aimed at improving the health and well-being of the target communities.
MAIN TASKS INCLUDE:
Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator:
- Project Planning and Implementation:
- Plan and implement COM-WASH project activities (hygiene promotion through behavior change communication) at the selected communities including schools, marketplaces, and motor parks within the LGA.
- Work with existing local structures (RRT, WHC, SMC, School Teachers, Market, and Motor parks Executives) within the LGA and other stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation.
- Community Engagement and Training:
- Organize training and capacity building for selected community volunteers who will serve as Sanitation Ambassadors (SAs).
- Work with existing local structures (Rapid Response Team, Ward Health Committee, Social Mobilization Committee, WASH committee/Health and Sanitation Committee, School Teachers, Market and Motor parks Executives) to plan and coordinate community-led hygiene promotion and education sessions.
- Facilitate community participation in WASH projects to ensure sustainability.
- Coordinate PHAST (Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation) activities in the community.
- Plan and organize WASH outreaches with SAs and WASH-COM/HSC within the communities.
- Coordinate the distribution of Cholera Prevention Commodities (CPCs) by SAs and WASH-COM/HSC in the community.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Monitor the progress of COM-WASH project activities within the selected communities to ensure they meet established project goals and standards.
- Actively involved in the collection of data for the project performance indicators.
- Prepare weekly reports on project activities, outcomes, challenges and send to the Project Coordinator.
MAIN SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, agility and the ability to work in challenging environments.
- Familiarity with WASH principles, policies, and standards, as well as experience with community-based approaches and participatory planning.
- Ability to work under pressure and in remote or difficult conditions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusivity in WASH programs.
QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS:
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public health, sociology or a related field.
- A specialized training and experience in WASH will be an added advantage.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in implementing WASH projects, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office package. Ability to communicate fluently in English and the Local Language.
