Position Title: Qualitative Data Analyst

Project: Cervical Cancer and Tampon-Based HPV Screening in Nigeria (CATCH Study)

Location: Lagos, Nigeria (Hybrid arrangements may be considered)

Contract Type: Consultancy/Short-Term Contract

Duration: 3 – 4 Months (with possibility of extension based on project needs)

About the Study

The Cervical Cancer and Tampon-Based HPV Screening in Nigeria (CATCH Study) is a clinical research study funded by Grand Challenges Canada and implemented by the Equitable Health Access Initiative (EHAI). The study assesses the acceptability, feasibility, diagnostic performance, and cost-effectiveness of tampon-based self-collection for HPV screening compared with healthcare worker-collected cervical samples among women in Nigeria.

To support the qualitative component of the study, EHAI seeks an experienced Qualitative Data Analyst to lead the organization, coding, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of qualitative data generated through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs).

Key Responsibilities

The Qualitative Data Analyst will:

  • Develop and implement the qualitative data analysis framework.
  • Review, organize, and manage qualitative datasets, including interview transcripts and field notes.
  • Develop coding structures and apply thematic analysis techniques.
  • Conduct qualitative analysis using appropriate software such as NVivo, Atlas.ti, MAXQDA, or similar tools.
  • Identify emerging themes, patterns, and insights relevant to study objectives.
  • Triangulate findings across data sources and participant groups.
  • Prepare narrative summaries, thematic matrices, and analytical reports.
  • Contribute to donor reports, policy briefs, presentations, and scientific manuscripts.
  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator and study team to interpret findings and develop recommendations.
  • Ensure adherence to research ethics, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Health Policy, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience conducting qualitative research and analysis in public health, health systems, or social research.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data from:
  • Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
  • In-Depth Interviews (IDIs)
  • Key Informant Interviews (KIIs)
  • Proficiency in qualitative data analysis software (NVivo, Atlas.ti, MAXQDA, or equivalent).
  • Excellent analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in women’s health, HPV, cervical cancer, reproductive health, or health-seeking behaviour studies.
  • Experience working on donor-funded research projects.
  • Previous involvement in peer-reviewed publications and policy briefs.
  • Familiarity with mixed-methods research approaches.

  • Ability to synthesize large volumes of qualitative data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality outputs within tight timelines.

Expected Deliverables

The consultant will be expected to deliver:

  • Qualitative data coding framework.
  • Cleaned and organized qualitative dataset.
  • Thematic analysis report.
  • Presentation of key findings.
  • Contributions to the final study report.
  • Contributions to policy briefs and scientific manuscripts.
