EHAI Strengthens Immunization Coverage with Intensive Training in Kwara State

EHAI Nigeria recently conducted a four-day intensive training for healthcare workers and community volunteers in Ilorin East LGA, Kwara State, funded by the Pfizer Foundation Global Health Innovative Grant  Round 8 (GHIG 8) project. This training aimed to improve the immunization process and address under-immunization in the region.

The program opened with remarks from Ms. Rihanant Ajibola Sulyman, Head of the Primary Health Care Centre Illorin East, who emphasized the importance of the training in enhancing healthcare delivery. Dr. Timothy, The CEO of EHAI Nigeria provided an overview of GHIG 8, focusing on digitizing childhood immunization processes. The project equips healthcare workers with digital tools like tablets and solar power banks for tracking vaccine stocks and immunization coverage in real-time. Also, the training aimed to train Community Volunteers on how to identify unimmunized children and ensure they receive timely vaccinations.

A key focus was also on building Healthcare Workers’ capacity to engage caregivers, address vaccine hesitancy, and ensure follow-up through SMS reminders. Participants were also trained on data privacy, reinforcing the importance of secure handling of sensitive health data.

This training is a significant step toward improving immunization coverage in Kwara State, with EHAI Nigeria aiming to ensure that 95% of children complete their immunization schedule on the Pfizer GHIG 8 project. By integrating technology and community engagement, the GHIG 8 project is poised to transform immunization efforts in the region.
